Today's post is straight and to the point. Instead of words from Mom, here's a picture of what we received in the mail this morning.

My Friday became a lot more festive when I woke up to this email from Mom:
Good morning, Laura!
I found out last night at EPP (English Paper Piecing) at Cut Up and Quilt that our book is officially listed in the AQS March/April 2014 catalog that comes with the AQS quilt magazine. Do you get that insert with your AQS magazine? In fact, it's in there twice! - pg. 47 and 50. List price - $24.95. One of the ladies at EPP told me about it and I found it this morning! WE'RE OFFICIALLY AUTHORS!
Can't wait to see the real thing!

This week for Work in Progress Wednesday we're brining you another flimsy form mom's stash. This one is another mystery quilt, this time from McCalls Quilting, January-June 2012.
It's fun because it features a large floral print as the center of one of the blocks, but then also has open spaces in the other blocks where a floral design could be quilted. Using large-print fabrics can sometimes be challenging, and I just love how Mom incorporated this one. You can still see a lot of the print, but it's also not detracting from the entire quilt top.
What have you been working on lately?

Hi all! I wanted to share two quick pictures with you today from the road trip my husband and I just took through! Even though these two pictures are not quilting related, I promise that are PLENTY of quilting adventures to share with you!
First up is a picture of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains! I snapped this from the car as we were approaching them. I love how you can see the mountains and clouds into the distance.
Second picture is from the birthday present I gave to my husband-Avalanche vs. Rangers hockey tickets! We do love our hockey!
Next week-back to your regularly scheduled quilting, crafting and sewing!

Welcome to Caturday. Where we bring you ridiculous pictures of cats "helping" their humans quilt, sew, and craft.
Yes, this is the same quilt from the latest Work in Progress Wednesday. This one, however, has the addition of an adorable black kitten in the lower right hand corner. I think he liked the black fabric that I chose because he was drawn to this quilt like a magnet. I finally had had to physically remove him in order to get a clear shot.

So last week we shared Mom's version of our second challenge quilt and this week it's my turn!
In contrast to Mom's light fabric choice, I went with a solid black for my extra fabric choice. For my block, I used Bonnie Hunter's free instructions for Sister's Choice.
One thing that was an extra challenge for me was that some of the jelly roll strips were a little skimpy and didn't measure the full 2 1/2" across. There was definitely a bit of coaxing that went into making some of the blocks. Given its name, this one is destined for my baby brother once I get it quilted!
Here are the two finished quilts side by side! I'm still amazed at the differences every time I look at them!
